Today's Earlier Blog
Over the last week alot of these guys have been spotted! Although they havent read the many books available on entomology! as Damselflies should have died off by september, officially the time for Damsel flies are known to be between May till August.
A few Anglers have asked about a little more detail so here goes!
Damselflies undergo a incomplete "metamorphosis" as an aquatic nymph stage. The female lays eggs in water, sometimes in underwater vegetation, or high in trees etc. Nymphs are carnivorous, feeding on mosquito larvae, and various other small aquatic organisms, using projectile jaws similar to those of the dragon fly nymph. After moulting several times, the winged adult emerges and eats flies, mosquitoes, and other small insects. So an absolute "God send" when a large mosquitoe hatch takes place.
Tightlines and i hope this answers a few emails!
