Over the last few days, as the water has warmed up, it seems as if the fish has gone a lot deeper.
Sinking lines, and find the thermocline layer (the correct layer of water where the temperature balance is perfect for trout.). This Thermocline layer can exist at any depth within the lake, with the sun directly penetrating the water, this will push the thermocline layer down towards the cooler depths.
The fish will still be feeding, but alot deeper than usual. The odd fish will show itself on the surface or just under, and quickly return to the depths. Very rarely on days like we've had lately, do the fish stay near the surface. This doesn't rule out dries! The trout will always be on the look out for insects landing or hatching within the surface film.
Looking promising for this weekend, the weathers warm and dry and the wind is minimal.
Sinking lines and a team of buzzers or nymphs will catch more fish while the weather is bright and hot.
Please be aware that we have a 100% barbless/debarbed hook only policy that exists here at curleys.
Barbless or De-Barbed hooks only, on both the trout lake and the smaller coarse lake.
Any Persistent offenders will be asked to leave the fishery.
On a More positive note, we have replenished our fish net dipping station, so please before you commence fishing, dip and shake your net within this container for 10 or so seconds.
Thanks and tight lines,
Nathan
