Black Gnats & Hawthorns

The Lake is surrounded by small Black Gnats, in their hundreds!
Just as the rain has stopped, creating damp and mild conditions, they have appeared in huge numbers.

A simple Black Gnat imitation fished on a long leader (floating line), grease/degrease the leader up correctly and you should be in for a good session.

The rain has stopped for the last hour, and the temperature has risen slightly, very mild.

Hawthorn flies have been about also today, a terrestrial insect found near bushes in May. The hawthorn is easily spotted as it flies very slowly, almost cumbersome with its long black legs hanging beneath it.
The Hawthorn is a weak flier and can easily get blown onto a river or lake where the trout absolutely adore it. An essential fly near hawthorn bushes in May!

- NOTE TO ANGLERs -
The Net dip is now in full working order, so please, on every visit to curleys dip your net before commencing fishing. (large black container as you walk down the path near Pontoon 2#, see picture below)
A quick dip/shake, no more than 10 seconds is all it takes to cleanse your net before fishing.

Thanks.
