Im expecting another explosion of hatches today, over the last couple of weeks when its been warmer theres been hundreds of black knats and midges all around the lake.
With it being slighty cooler early morning there isnt much showing, however that will soon change as they gorge on hatches, as the water warms.
Overall its looking good! warm weather, and some good fishing to be had.
Jim McGinley is leading the way this morning, with a few fish to his net already and a cracking bow of around 4 1/2lbs. To a white goldhead lure, floating line, fished no more than 2 feet down.
On my initial walk around the fishery, i spotted this little critter.
On closer inspection and a quick look through the essential book, "Waterside Guide". It is without a doubt a sedge, the description that best matches or the correct name, "small yellow sedge" which can vary from a brownish colour to a yellow-brownish colour. Exists in running water as well as stillwaters/lakes, 5-6mm in length. Although it is a little early, they are in larger numbers from Late May through to September.
Example Imitations- Small Muddler, Invicta etc.
