Thursday 8th Aug

Another very pleasant day albeit bright and warm for fishing, hence "normal" summer fishing techniques still apply.
Fish still being caught almost all day but far more productive in the mornings - the fishery opens at 8am and at that time there are nearly always fish moving and feeding at the surface.

If you fish during the hotter hours of the day you will need to be deeper - try a change of plan. Instead of counting down deeper as you fish with a sinking line it is sometimes better to establish where the bottom is first!
So cast and allow the line and flies to actually hit the bottom - how do you know? If you are bringing back debris - sticks and leaves etc on your retrieves then you are on the bottom if that's not happening then you aren't on the bottom - simple as that!!!
Once you have established the bottom then count up to search differing depths.

Don't forget how long it will take your line to reach the bottom approx -----

Intermediate line sinks approx 1ins per second so it will take 7 mins to reach 35ft!!!!!!!!
A medium sink (Di3) sinks 3ins per second so that will take 2.3 mins to reach 35ft!!!!
A fast sink at say 7ins per second would take 1min to reach 35ft!!!!

how long are you leaving your line sinking for???

Do you have the right line for the job???
