Fishing updates

Pretty wet today but at 9 degrees, quite warm foe the time of year. Couple of fish per rod has been the average for a few days, not ad for the conditions.
Will be a lot higher, once the new fish arrive!

New Year Bonanza!

Breaking News

Curley's are going to have one of the largest stocking of fish ever next week! Certainly the most fish stocked in one hit for over 6 years!

We will be full to busting with excellent quality rainbows and Blues from 1 kilo upwards.

The long term weather forecast is very favourable with mild temperatures and showers so the fish should settle in very quickly giving good returns straight away.

What are you doing next week?

Rainy days

What do you do when it's raining? Well you can of course stay at home and watch telly but you could also go fishing.
catch rates can be good in the rain as it gets the fish to wake up a bit and become more active. Rain  generally means the temperatures are higher than clear days and this can spark good buzzer hatches and fish hanging about higher in the water.
Certainly there have been a lot of fish moving about in the top layers over the last 2 days and I expect this to continue as this weather pattern becomes more consistant.

So take advantage of this get out the wet weather gear and dust off the floating line!!

One of the many advantages of Curley's you can always have a break in the new cafe!

Festive fishing

The fishery has had quite a few visitors from far afield over the holidays up to now. The one that has travelled the furthest was from Sussex, in the North visiting friends but wanted to fish.

Most visitors have caught,  top rod yesterday was 5 fish. There has been a few pike fishers on the main lake dead baiting with pre bookings busy over the next few days.
The course lake has had some participants with a little Lad well into a catch over 30 fish today, at least he was a happy Lad.

The weather is fairly mild with temps around 6 to 8 degrees and quite a few fish topping in the unseasonal conditions.

Merry Xmas

Christmas greetings

I would just like to wish everyone who has visited Curley's and especially our valued members and their families a very Merry Christmas and Fish filled New Year.

The fishery will be open everyday except Christmas Day itself. So come along for some no doubt well earned 'ME' time. In spite of the changeable conditions it's been fishing pretty well with most visitors catching a couple of fish each.

Hope to see you soon, have a good one

Entomology for the fly fisher

The Fresh Water Biological Association have just released the new course details for next year
Have a look at the link here http://www.fba.org.uk/fba-training-courses
The entomology for Anglers levels 1 and 2 are invaluable for anyone taking fly fishing seriously.
I did these courses last year as a refresher and learned lots and lots from my mate Stuart Crofts and Andy Dixon.
Well recommended - maybe another Chrissy present????

Update on conditions

As yesterday some fishing to be had from the last two roadside pontoons and about half the embankment. Hopefully no problems for the weekend if the expected rain for tomorrow arrives as forecast.

Update

This is a first for Curley's as far as I can remember anyway - every fish caught today was a Blue Trout and all caught on Cat's Whiskers, sinking line, slow retrieve!!

Good forecast for tomorrow - Almost no wind and a +C temperature!

Fishing report

Well, the weather has turned colder and certainly crisper.  Frosty mornings and frozen cars are the order of the day!
All those that braved the elements last week caught fish, mostly to sinking lines and black fritz. In fact I can't actually remember if anyone caught on anything else except a black fritz!
The fish were fry chasing over the weekend with to odd swirl being seen particularly on Saturday.

Today's prospects will be much the same with the fish about 10-15 ft deep. Bit blustery today but the wind due to die down a bit over the next few days.  Actually quite pleasant in the winter sunshine.

Plenty of time to put your fishing Christmas list together!

Fishing report

Surprisingly for most of this week the fish have not been as deep as you would have thought. Most caught have been in the top 8ft to 10ft. However don't be fooled this probably won't last if the forecasts for next week are anything to go by anyway!

The go to tactic would be an intermediate line which sinks at the rate of 1" to 1 1/2" per second.
Start at the surface casting 5 or 6 times around 180 degrees then start again this time counting to 16, which means you line is 2ft deep! Then start again counting to 32 - 4ft deep! and then 64 getting down to 8ft. I am sure you get the picture.  If you are dragging back leaves and debris you are at the bottom!

GOOD NEWS
The new cafe is now open and the tackle shop will be back to its former glory very soon. Although the new cafe is a big change and very well fitted and finished you will still be warmly welcomed in your fishing gear!
The ducting in the tackle shop is being boxed in mid week, then we can tidy up and do a bit of painting!

See you all very soon I hope.

Tuesday 4th December

As promised we have some rain!
A reasonable westerly wind around 10mph also present, this will push the fish a little deeper, and as England youth fly fisher Oliver Avis showed over the weekend, the trout are still chasing small coarse fish that dwell within the trout lake.
With 5 fish netted within a very short 2 hour session, to white zonkers, fished around 12-15ft down.

The trout have really switched on over the last few days, it took them a while to adjust to the drop in temperature but they seemed to have switched on to feeding mode. Stocking up before the colder months, gorging themselves on any available food source.

WEEKENDS TOP PATTERNS:
  1. White zonker
  2. Black Fritz
  3. Black & green tadpole
  4. Black buzzers
Fished slow and deep around the 15ft mark has proven more productive, althought trout have been showing early and later on, the majority of the catches have been made around midday on slime lines, slow sinking lines.

Were back! with regular photos, videos & much more....

BRIEF WEATHER SUMMARY:
Cold around -1.5 degrees, nil wind, thermals recommended! Fish suprisingly moving all across the lake, and it appears they are (yet again) fry bashing! get those minkies and zonkers tied on!

Email me your photos & short stories on your recent fishing experiences...

Sunday 2nd December

Cold start to the morning, with little or nil wind present. Fish rising all across the lake which is a little unusual this time of year, although the majority of the trout will be sat much deeper, keeping within the thermcline layer, where the conditions are best suited.

Slow sinking to fast sinking lines recommended. Vary the depth to find the fish, a simple, yet effective way of doing so, is to count down to "10"seconds then "20" seconds etc, vary the depth to find the fish.

Pattern wise, anything with black or green! large fritz & small fry patterns coming into their own this time of year, slow steady retrieve as the fish are rather lathergic due to the sudden drop in temperature. Finally, but no less important, keep on the move. This constant moving about will not only keep you guys/gals warm but will increase your catch rate. Keep on the move, vary the retrieve and pattern.

Tightlines!
Get out on the bank today! its cold but fish moving, the anglers currently fishing are stating they have seen the larger trout chasing fry, close to the margins!

Happy to get the blogs up and running again! and dont forget your thermals!
