Update

The fishery will be stocked again tomorrow (Thurs 24th March)
The fish are already moving up towards the surface again with the warmer water temps. So slow intermediates are the order of the day or if you insist on using floaters then use a long leaders - 15ft min!

Some good bags caught lots into double figures and a significant number with over 20 fish!

Great Pike fishing to be had - look at this 18lbs
Pike caught by Mick O'Toole from Wigan

  1. i went to curlys on tuesday march 23 2010,what a day !
got a 4 hour sporting as usual, as i was getting sorted the baliff (nice chap ) was telling me about a guy who had 20 fish in 4 hours the day before, well you take that sort of tale with a bit of a pinch of salt don't you but blow me in walks the fella in question to get another 4 hour and not only did he confirm his tally but told me what fly he used (an orange zonker) and the spot were he fished, luverly chap,so off i go get set up and chuck in an orange zonker on a long leader twice the length of me rod.
at the side of me was a chap using a floater long leader and a green fritz tinhead he had two while i was setting up but i carried on with the zonker i had one pull in half an hour and he had 5 fish.
well you gotta ask don't ya ,so i tied on a green fritz tin head 6 casts wham number one i gotta be honest i did copy his retrieve style and it worked (well your always learning in this game arn't you) i had 3 more and then the guy said he was off for some dinner so i moved up onto his platform.
all hell broke loose i had fish after fish, on the pontoon opposite the guy from the day before turned up and was casting towards me but using a fast sinker, very slow figure of 8 retrieve and a fly he tied himself a red zonker with some glitter strands and a gold head, he was hamering them his final total was 27 that day,he called me over and offered me one of the flys he was using (what a nice chap) so i tied it onto the floater ........nothing 20 casts and nothing was taking it so i changed lines to a sinker/long leader (12 foot) cast in waited 1 minute slow figure of eight and wham i was in i didn't change that fly /line or leader again,
my time was up i was on 9 fish and i had missed 6 (barbless) so i said sod it and went and got another ticket and fished on well i was one away from my personal best tally, what would you do ....exactly....so from 10.30 a.m to 4.30 p.m i had 15 fish landed from one and a half pounds to 3 and a half and 7 got off .
easily the best days fishing i have ever had at curlys or anywhere for that matter, i had had blank after blank from january to that day and i was doubting everything about my fishing.
but now i can't wait to get out again.
and the moral of this story is : NEVER GIVE UP,DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK NO MATTER HOW LONG YOU HAVE BEEN FISHING AND GET A PAIR OF BINOCULARS SO YOU CAN LOOK AT THE GUY 40 YARDS AWAY WHO IS HAMMERING FISH AFTER FISH TO LOOK AT HIS SET UP AND RETRIEVE TECHNIQUE HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.,

THANKYOU VERY MUCH CURLYS FOR A GREAT DAY
