Reasonable Westerly wind at the moment, blowing from the dam wall, see water map here.
I fished it myself yesterday and found that the trout were heading down, but with the slightly water temperature this morning, this appears to have brought them closer to the surface, a daddy long legs skipped across the wave should trigger a good response. If this fails a large, bright coloured booby skipped across the surface with a team of nymphs suspended below. Intermediate line just to drag the booby under the surface the last 15ft of the retrieve, often triggers a take before the "hang".
PLEASE NOTE You can attend the pike fishing weekends, with your fly rod for the usual suspects, or try to catch yourself a monster pike to the fly! Further details, here & for a full list of Rules see this link.
As regards to the fly fishing recently, the catch rates have climbed & some very good catches coming out. Member Phil Rees has had a cracking week pulling out nearly 20 fish within a few sessions, to various patterns. Still on floating line....
One of many large pike that have come out over the last few weeks! This one stands at 18lbs 9oz |
Todays forecast isnt too bad, a little rain first thing but brightening up as i type this, a little on the windy side so warm clothing recommended. A sinking line can often be easier casting into the head of a wind, as it cuts throught the breeze. Presenting your flies into the wind can be deadly, especially as alot of anglers will go for comfort and sit facing away from the wind. Downwind embankment holds alot of food, as its stirred up various food sources are brought upto the surface.
Tightlines, and a short clip will be up shortly displaying the current conditions here...
