Thursday 11th October

As the majority of Blog viewers will understand today was too wet for most. Those Anglers that braved the conditions came away with 2-3 fish after last only a couple of hours.

The majority of the fish caught today have been to dark, drab, lures & fritz's. For example, olive, black goldhead fritz doing well.

Hopefully the weather will improve but for now please enjoy the video below, which shows a "different" take on September's Season member's evening. A little bit more "up-beat" but still, full of fish capture moments and some photos of the evenings food and fishing.

Wednesday 10th October

Winters coming!

A cold day today, thermals or plenty of layers recommended, the trout has started to feed like crazy and some really good bags coming out also.
Top rod today was the other Bailiff here at Curleys, with 8 fish to various patterns, all fished within the top few feet of water.

Conditions wise, apart from it being rather cold weve had next to no wind a very slightly easterly present currently. Althought the weather isnt looking too bright over the next few days, the fish here prefer dull windy conditions.

A quick video not only showing one of the fish caught oday, but also exactly how a trout should be returned to the water. New to fly fishing!? watch this video on catch and release. If your not sure on how to handle the fish here please ask before commencing fishing, there is nothing embarrasing about being new to the sport, we all start some where and 99% of anglers on the water and bailiffs within the tackle shop are more than happy to answer any questions.

Monday 8th October

Book your place for next years membership 2013 Season!!
Click here for further membership details, or ring the fishery office to have a chat about the perks!

A cold but sunny start to the morning, however as we get closer to midday the temperature is starting to rise, much warmer than it has been over the last few days.
Virtually nil wind a very slight easterly, blowing towards the dam wall.

Some nice fishing coming out earlier on, 7:30-8:00am. Including a nice bow of around 3 1/2 lb taken to a black and green goldhead tadpole.

Today's Video upload :
Sorry about the poor quality of this video, it was captured on my phone, currently fixing the HD camera!

Top flies over the weekend have been anything dark....
  1. Black tadpole
  2. Black fritz
  3. Brown blob
  4. Black & Gold Bibio
Daddy long legs and klinkhamers still doing well but have been over taken by the Black tadpole as of late, the tadpole has fished best within the top few feet of water, brought back at a reasonable pace.

Saturday - - What a start to the weekend!

Limited spaces available, and we've receiving applications constantly through out this week!

A cracking day weather wise, and the fish are being very obliging!
A very slight westerly, around 2-4mph. Although a little cooler this morning than it has been this appears to have woken the trout up! some serious catches taking place and its only 9am!!

Below is a photo of a specimen of a blue trout, a 6lb power house caught to a black tadpole fished around 18 inches deep for member Jim McGinley.

What a fish! fully finned and built like Arnie! Possibly one of our resident fry feeders!? bulking up before the colder winter months...
Today's Video upload, for a change taken from the south side of the dam wall, over looking the top corner of the lake and some of the views.

An excellent day so far!

 Today's Previous blog...

ANGLERS PLEASE READ
It would be brilliant to hear some of your thoughts and opinions, of how the fishery looks, and the improvements both myself and Geoff have made to the fishery since the beginning of the season. Both negative and positive comments will be taken on board, as we always look to better the fishery, and are constantly improving the facilities available.
Email me or ring the tackle shop on 01204 691199

Many thanks!

A couple of captures to dries, red bodied klinks and daddy long legs imitation capturing these two fully finned trout.

Thursday 4th Coldtober

A rather cool still start to the morning, no wind present at all here.
A few anglers out wetting a line, dries catching, klinks, daddies & small beetle patterns.

Some anglers getting into the swing of the pike fishing now the temp has started to drop, dead baiting is a favourable method, but anglers also catching on specialist pike fly tackle.
I must mention however that lure fishing / spinning is not allowed.

If you interested in fishing for the pike at Curley's - email me or ring the tackle shop, all pike anglers must book in before their days fishing as we have a limit on how many pike anglers we allow on the water.

Wednesday 3rd October

Windy but sunny! A few anglers on currently, all of which are on various methods, but the winning method today, has been buzzers fished deep on a midge tip fly line.
A westerly today, which is the norm here. Around 10mph, but not too strong.

Monthly Members Evening review !!
A general look at the September members evening, and the awesome curry that went down a treat!

Curley's always fishes best this time of year, just as the water temp starts to drop towards the colder months.
Big Gordy lures, black fritz, blobs, stripped back at a rate of knots does very well, as a lot of anglers found yesterday. Its often difficult to achieve a solid hook up when the trout chase, three ways to achieve solid hook ups on a fast paced retrieve.
  • Slow the retrieve down enough for the trout to take hold.
  • Keep the speed constant so the trout will continue to chase and hopefully latch hold.
  • Before lifting off to re-cast, hang your flies for around 20seconds to allow the fish to catch up and grab the flies before they escape its vision.
Its often a case of trying all three of the above until your fast stripped lure is met with resistance.

Top patterns for yesterday:
  1. Klinkhamer
  2. Daddy long legs
  3. Orange blob
  4. Olive gold head
The fish have been consistently no more than 3-4ft deep, with alot of fish taking flies as they touch down on the surface. So be prepared for plenty of instant smash grab takes!

Weather wise the rain is holding off at the minute, but its very dull and dark. The forecast isn't too bright for today, however these conditions are ideal for trout, cloudy and cool.

I will upload a video shortly.... check back soon!

Tightlines.
PS. The September Members evening video is currently in the finishing stages, so it should be uploaded before the weekend! (had a few emails through).

October is here!

Monday 1st October

Not bad conditions here currently, virtually nil wind, and the trout have been consistently within the top few feet all day. So dries have caught more fish than any other patterns, daddies, klinks & suspender buzzers currently doing the killing.
A classic evening rise almost definitely on the cards this evening!

Today's Video Upload - sorry not in HD today.

A couple of photos, Top photo taken of Member Phil Reese with one of his 4 fish caught today.
All to dries, red, black bodied klinkhamers.
