At last a good day weatherwise and according to the forecast only going to get better and more consistant. It is this consistency that has made life so difficult for us fly fishers.
Once the temperature and barometer have settled a bit the fish will suddenly liven up become much more active and start to feed longer and harder.
So IF the forecast is anything like true we should be in for a good weekend with a deal of dry fly activity available.
Today has started off quietly but 3 fish to the net for member Jim McGinley already.
Floating lines long leaders, fishing the top 6 foot of water the right tactic and then react quickly to any feeding activity.

Thursday 30th August
Nice conditions here today, the suns out and a nice refreshing breeze is rolling in from the west. Creating a nice even ripple across the lake.
Anglers did well yesterday, with Member Phil Rees netting 6 and losing just as many to delicate takes to his daddy long legs imitation.
Early morning / late afternoon fishing better, with the classic evening rise often taking place beyond 6pm.
Other wise known as the "forest bug" Pentatoma rufipes, a large, heavy shielded bug easily to recognise for its spiky lateral projections and orange legs.
These are worth imitating as Ive seen a few landing on the surface around the edges of the reservoir, as they actually lay their eggs on bark of oaks and other trees around this time of year, and some falling into the water as they are in the process of doing so.
Although these "bugs" aren't as common as others, they can still provide a respectable food source for the occasional trout this time of year. Below is a photo!

- Small Black foam bugs, cast under over hangs or allowed to drift about on the water.

Wednesday 29th August
Today's weather forecast has put a few anglers off. However its not as bad as predicted, a light rain present but virtually nil wind, a slight easterly.
A lot of fish showing near the surface early morning, with one angler hooking into a trout on his first cast!
The top patterns seems to be the daddy so far, with the majority of trout coming out to this pattern over the last week or so.
The HD videos will resume from next week. Currently videos aren't in HD.
Floating line, long leader and a team of dries seem to be the order of the day!
Water proofs recommended, but according to the forecasters the weather will (fingers crossed) improved as we get closer to midday.
UPDATE:
The weather has started to brighten up [11am] and even clear skies on the horizon!
No rain for the last hour.

Member Evening Meet up amendments [Click here]
Not bad conditions today, the suns out the majority of the time, but it doesn't appear to be pushing the fish deeper. The majority of trout today have come out to dries, daddies, black hoppers and black foam Gnats.
A reasonable refreshing cool westerly, as the saying goes! "fish bite the best when the winds blowing from the west!"
Anglers having to work for their catches today, with the changeable conditions effecting the recent stocked fish's initial acclimatising stage. The best action will be from this evening onwards, when the weather cools and the sun dips behind the tree line. Evening fishing at Curley's currently the most productive time for anglers.

Bank Holiday Monday 27th August

Not bad conditions at Curleys considering the forecast is a little less than welcoming.
A reasonable wind present, easterly (towards the dam). [See map]
No rain as of yet, but plenty of fish within the lake due to a current stocking, the trout that have been stocked most recently haven't settled down yet, but when they do the sport will be brilliant. Cats whiskers at the ready! More than likely the fish will settle down today going on to Tuesday, with the weather changing continuously since stocking, the trout have taken a little longer to acclimatise.

Saturday 25th August
Members Evening Session
A beautiful wild brownie caught by Geoff, fishing off pontoon 2 towards the east overhang. Caught to a olive goldhead lure. (23rd august).
Today's conditions are ideal, a very slight easterly, and the rain over night cooling the surface layer. Quite a few fish showing near the surface, but i would imagine they will be sat around 5-6ft down currently, unless a large hatch commences, bringing them a little closer to the surface.
A few anglers up bright and early, all on different methods currently.
Yesterday we had a excellent day with the majority of anglers catching their bag limit and plenty of fish came out to various patterns. Top Rod (which wont be a suprise!) Young Oliver Avis! with 9 fish to dries!

Quite a few rods on today, most have caught with the top rod Oliver, having 7 fish all to dries.
Not easy fishing under the prevailing conditions the fish being ultra fussy, coming up to the fly and swirling away but it keeps you interested.
The newly stocked fish haven't kicked in yet and are still getting to grips with their new environment which means that all those fishing on Saturday, Sunday or Monday should benefit.

Thursday 23rd August / Stocking today*
Members Evening Session
We are stocking today with 150+ bows and blues. (pictures/video to follow soon).
Weather wise it isnt too bad this morning, light drizzle, but virtually nil wind, a very slight easterly.
Alot of fish showing just under the surface currently, with the rain cooling down the initial few layers of water, bringing the trout nearer to the surface.

Photo of the stocking taking place at 9:30am. A mixture of the standard stocking size and some bigger fish between 5-7lb, mostly bows with the odd blue and brown trout.
